International day for the elimination of violence against women
November 25 was declared officially as the International day for the elimination of violence against women. The decision of the General Assembly of the UN adopted a few years ago, in December 1999. With the aim of attracting the attention of the world to this problem, all governments and non-governmental organizations and international including, it was proposed to hold this day in different activities.
The reason for choosing 25 November as a day against violence was the events of 1961 in the Dominican Republic. Rafael Trujillo, who was at that time the ruler of the aforesaid Republic, was sentenced to death three sisters by the name of Mirabal, political activists, opponents of the Trujillo regime. on November 25, they were brutally killed. This fact received the condemnation of the world community. And since 1981, women's rights advocates began to honor this day.
20 December 1993, the United Nations when the General Assembly adopted a Declaration on the elimination of violence against women.
Every day women are subjected to violence, and do not expect any date, in order to protect them.
