The day of Slavic writing and culture
on may 24 for all Slavic countries is a festival bringing to our land of the writing, the creation of an iconography rich culture and Russian literature – the day of veneration of the saints enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. Whatever science we could not comprehend the depth of any literary work, and sought to attain this knowledge in our native language – all of this is an echo of the great legacy left to us by the creators of the Slavic alphabet.
As far back as the ELEVENTH century two Orthodox monks, Cyril and Methodius arrived on our earth from Constantinople as preachers, educators. Their efforts have created the Slavic alphabet, called "Cyrillic» in honor of one of the brothers, and also translated the Psalms, the Gospels and other texts for Orthodox worship. Since then began intensive development of Slavic culture, the creation of Chronicles, literary and scientific works.
The day of Slavic writing is celebrated in Russia since 1863, though he was in Soviet times undeservedly forgotten.
24 may each year in the main Orthodox temple of Murmansk conduct the divine Liturgy and Procession in memory of the apostles of the Holy brothers Cyril Methodius. It was erected in their honor memorial flowers.
In the course of the Day of Slavic writing and culture arranged a celebration of native Words, involving everything from small to large, from students to famous Russian poets and writers. On the streets of ancient Russian cities and museums-monuments of Slavic culture there are numerous performances and festivals. In addition, in celebration of this day has conducted numerous scientific conferences, one of them is the conference of the international level «Slavic world: community and diversity.
